New Engineer Boost for Ellery
4/4/2004 8:33 (Press Release) -
In a sport where one tenth of a second makes a huge difference, Super Cheap Auto Racing has secured the services of engineer Murray Coote to help driver Steven Ellery carve up the field in the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship.
Coote’s first day on the job opened according to plan with the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon in the Top 14 at the end of this afternoon’s practice session for the second round of the series at Eastern Creek in Western Sydney.
Coote has a rich and board motorsport career with experience in rallying and V8 Supercars.
“It is great to be part of one of Australia’s leading V8 Supercar teams and I look forward to working with Steven and the crew at Super Cheap Auto Racing throughout 2004,” Coote said.
Coote and Super Cheap Auto Racing Engine Builder, Craig Hasted have already proven to be a great team through their work together at Paul Weel Racing.
“To be on the podium at Sandown and Bathurst is a huge achievement for a small but professional team and I look forward to working with everybody at Super Cheap Auto Racing to build upon the successful results already achieved.”
Ellery was quick to point out the benefits of having Coote as a member of the Super Cheap Auto Racing team with drivers in the V8 Supercar category constantly recording times where only a couple of seconds separates the whole field.
“Practice today was just one example of how tight V8 Supercar racing is, with half a second between my fastest lap time and the four drivers ahead,” Ellery commented.
“When a second makes the difference between first and 15th each team looks for the slightest advantage to gain a competitive lead over the rest of the field. Murray’s expertise will help provide Super Cheap Auto Racing with this edge.”
Tomorrow the Super Cheap Auto Racing Falcon will go through another two practice sessions before qualifying later in the afternoon. Coote’s experience has already paid dividends, with the team identifying areas to improve the car overnight to gain more speed.
“Murray has already identified some areas which the crew at Super Cheap Auto Racing can develop and we will have an improved car for tomorrow,” Ellery concluded.
