FPR V8 Supercar Star Drops Into Wanneroo Primary

8/6/2004 23:26 (Press Release) - Ford Performance Racing driver Glenn Seton visited Wanneroo Primary School in Western Australia today to reinforce the important message of road safety to school children in the lead up to the fifth round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Barbagallo Raceway this weekend.

It was an opportunity for the children at Wanneroo Primary to get an insight into V8 Supercar racing from one of the most experienced and accomplished V8 Supercar drivers in the series today.

Seton, who has a competitive 20 year career in racing under his belt and is placed amongst Ford’s most successful drivers in V8 Supercar history, said that the school visits in conjunction with V8 Supercar events was a great way of alerting children to the importance of road rules.

“When it comes to road safety, it is up to all road users and pedestrians to ensure that they are playing by the rules. It is important to develop road safety practices at a young age and to take responsibility for others around you, because we all want to arrive safe, whether it is in a car, on a bike or even walking, there are things everyone can do to ensure their safety,” Seton said.

As well as being given the opportunity to ask the double Series Champion questions about V8 Supercar racing, children at Wanneroo Primary were given the opportunity to get up close to the Wright Patton Shakespeare Audi Safety Cars that operate as the V8 Supercars Official Safety Cars at every V8 Supercar Championship Series and Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Series round.

“This was a very enjoyable and important school visit. You can’t help but get caught up in the enthusiasm that children have for V8 Supercar racing and this makes it a great for us to be involved. We all have a responsibility to promote road safety and this is definitely a great way to do it,” Seton added.

Seton, who has over 50 podium finishes to his credit, will be looking for a strong performance at the newly resurfaced Barbagallo track this weekend hoping to work his way up the Championship points table that sees him sitting just inside the top twenty in nineteenth position.

The School Visit is part of the 2004 Wright Patton Shakespeare V8 Supercar Schools Program that visits schools around Australia providing the younger generation with first hand knowledge of the importance of road safety as well as to provide children with a taste of the power, energy and excitement that is involved with V8 Supercar racing.

Together with AVESCO’s state-of-the-art Kenworth B-Double transporter, the two Wright Patton Shakespeare Safety Cars provide Australia’s youth with the opportunity to enjoy the colour and movement of AVESCO’s travelling roadshow.

Today’s visit coincides with the fifth round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Barbagallo Raceway, Wanneroo on June 11-13.
