Ambrose docked full points from V8 Supercar Championship Series
5/7/2004 1:50 (Press Release) -
Reigning V8 Supercar Champion Marcos Ambrose has been docked 192 championship points and his Stone Brothers team fined $10,000 for a technical breach following today’s sixth round of the series at Queensland Raceway.
The penalty means Ambrose (872) has forfeited his lead in the V8 Supercar Championship Series, moving from first to fourth on the ladder. Steven Richards (1006) has now assumed the championship lead from Jason Bright (951) and Rick Kelly (930).
Ambrose will still be recognised as the winner of the 2004 Queensland 300. Despite winning the race, stewards later found his team to be in breach of technical rules C8.11.8 and C.11.9 relating to the control ECU loom schematic diagram as contained in schedule four.
Stone Brothers Racing team manager Ross Stone agreed to a breach of the rules that was discovered at post-race scrutineering.
Stewards found that the breach was unintentional. They also found there was an apparent lack of advantage from the breach.
The Stone Brothers Racing team have appealed the decision. This appeal is set down for the V8 Supercar Court of Appeal in Melbourne on Thursday.
