Brad Jones Racing race one report

11/1/2005 15:53 (Press Release) - John Bowe - #12 OzEmail Ford Falcon
Finished: 21st Qualified: 25th
Bowe’s day did not start well when he only completed 3 laps in the morning qualifying session. At high speed, he collected the limping Commodore of Paul Weel, the impact destroying the Watts Linkage suspension on the OzEmail Falcon and rendering the car inoperable for remainder of the session.

Bowe’s second flying lap was good enough for him to qualify in 25th place. In the opening race, he got off to a clean start and had climbed into 19th position by lap two. His tyre pit stop on lap three was a little slow and then a subsequent spin caused by a collision from an out of control Jason Richards on lap 5 had pushed Bowe back into 24th place.

Fighting an unbalanced car, he managed to struggle home in 21st place, gaining valuable championship points along the way.

John Bowe

“It was a really frustrating race. The car wasn’t right, we had a slow pit stop and I got whacked from behind, there wasn’t much more that could have gone wrong. Towards the end of the race, my car felt terrible. There was no shock control and it just wouldn’t turn into corners. We really haven’t found any balance so far this weekend. I hope we can improve things overnight.”

Brad Jones - #21 OzEmail Ford Falcon
Finished: 19th Qualified: 18th

Qualifying in the upper 50% bracket, Jones was disappointed with the setup of his car during the session, finishing in 18th. Whilst he had out performed his team mate through most sessions so far this weekend, he was in a similar boat when it comes to an unbalanced rig.

Jones did comment after qualifying that he thought he may have a car better suited to racing and that looked evident after he had jumped into 14th place on lap eight and putting pressure on a group of cars in front of him. On lap 13 it all come unstuck when Paul Morris was a little over ambitious and turned Jones around, with him regaining in 17th.

Jones suffered the same late race fate that Bowe did with a car that was dilapidating as the laps clocked over. He lost a couple of positions in the latter stages, coming home in 19th position.

Brad Jones

“I went into qualifying thinking that I had a chance of a good result. Whilst 18th isn’t too bad, I was disappointed we didn’t do a lot better. I was also really looking forward to tonight’s twilight race and with the good start and great pit stop that we had, things were looking pretty good at one stage. I’m really focussed on getting a good result this weekend because I still have a chance of finishing up to 12th in the championship.”
