Lowndes non-event; no decision expected soon

5/9/2000 11:38 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) - It went from being the biggest announcement in history, to become the biggest non-event in history. Despite everyone in V8 Supercar circles pronouncing yesterday as Lowndes’ D-Day, no announcement was made, nor will be made in the near future.

The “will he, won’t he” saga involving Craig Lowndes’ alleged defection to Ford will continue at least for another week, says Holden Racing Team Media Manager, Paul Weissel.

“I do not know who it was who said Craig would make a decision or an announcement yesterday. (It) seems other people have been trying to ‘drive’ this whole exercise, to fit in with their deadlines,” Weissel told us this morning.

“The Holden Racing Team and Craig Lowndes will make relevant announcements on Craig's future at an appropriate time. This week would not appear to be an appropriate time, with the Queensland 500 coming up,” he said.

Weissel refused to be drawn on when an announcement would be made, and with the Factory Holden team, and the sport in general, receiving more publicity than ever before, they are certainly in no hurry to inform.

An announcement is still expected before season’s end.
