WILSON DISPLAYS GREAT DRIVING SKILLS

19/4/2005 13:58 (Press Release) - Max Wilson driving the ‘WOW Racing’ Holden Commodore car #45 today showed a little of what is to come this season from the newly formed Tony Longhurst race team.

Wilson displayed determination during qualifying with excellent times during the early stages only to drop away in the closing minutes of the session.

“The entire field is so close now, with only a half second between the thirty four car field, it doesn’t get anymore competitive than that” - exclaimed Wilson.

“It’s full on make no mistake about it, you just can’t afford to make one error so to do that and keep your foot flat to the floor takes 100% concentration for the duration”.

“We chose not to put new tyres on for the practice session yesterday, so my times were pretty average considering”.

“With today’s qualifying, I felt I had a lot more grip but just lacked a little on top end speed by positioning myself in 15th spot for race one”.

The pace was fast and furious for race one of the final round to be conducted at New Zealand’s Pukekohe Raceway.

Wilson in the “WOW” car #45 got away with an excellent start and soon pushed his way up to 11th spot in the 36 lap race, continuing on and choosing to pit later than his rivals on lap 24.

Dropping two positions when re entering the circuit in 13th position, Wilson continued the charge for the remaining twelve laps of the race.

With two laps remaining, Wilson was holding down 11th spot when he encountered dirt and debris on turn 7 before the main straight which saw Wilson battle to keep control of the car, drifting sideways off the edge of the circuit, which in turn resulted in dropping several places to his competitors in the closing stages.

Wilson crossed the line in a credible 15th position considering this is only the second round that Wilson has steered the Holden Commodore through a race.

“I’m very happy with the way the car handles, I just have to fined that extra two tenths of a second we need to be with the leading cars” - said Wilson.

“The team have done a magic job with the cars preparation, we just have to keep looking for where we can gain that extra little bit of speed to catapult us to the front of the bunch, I know we can do it”.

“We will now concentrate on tomorrow’s two 50 lap races and see if we can dramatically improve on today’s outcome, I feel sure we can”. – Wilson concluded.
