V81000 PRAC - Kiwis confident of making grid
6/10/2001 23:48 (V8 Wire - Jason Whittaker) -
The Bathurst TAFE Smash Repair team will burn the midnight oil tonight in an effort to get the Team Kiwi Racing Commodore on the grid tomorrow morning.
The All-Black car was all but destroyed in final practice this afternoon when, in the final minute of the session, Angus Fogg lost control at the kink prior to the Cutting.
Team Kiwi Manager Martin Collins said most of the damage was cosmetic, with everything forward of the rear axle in need of repair.
The TAFE team hopes to hand the car back to Collins at 5am tomorrow morning.
Of his chances of making the grid for the 10am start, Collins said he was “sort of confident.”
Fogg was taken to hospital for x-rays after the crash, but has been cleared to race tomorrow.
The Kiwi Commodore, co-driven by Jason Richards, was ninth-quickest in this afternoon’s hour-long hit-out.
The K-Mart entry of Todd Kelly and Greg Murphy was fastest in a session where most teams concentrated on testing components and practicing pit stops.
