Hands off our BRutes, PROCAR tells V8 fans

Drivers from the burgeoning V8 BRutes category yesterday strongly rejected an informal proposal to join the V8 Supercar circus, saying they don’t want to be in anyone’s shadow.

V8 BRutes drivers, including former Bathurst 1000 winner Allan Grice and part-time V8 Supercar driver James Brock, voted unanimously against linking with the biggest motorsport show in the country, reaffirming their commitment to the expanding PROCAR Championship Series.
A panel of V8 Supercar drivers recently suggested the Holden verses Ford Ute series would be a welcome addition to a lacklustre support card, a suggestion that proved popular with fans and one not dismissed by AVESCO Chairman Tony Cochrane.
But in a statement released today, PROCAR Deputy Executive Chairman, John Cowley, did dismiss the idea.
"PROCAR has no intention of going into a support role again,” he said. “The drivers have also put their hands up and said 'no way'. We'll be concentrating on growing our own events and categories and we'll leave others to do the same."
Mr Cowley said PROCAR hold the exclusive rights to V8 Ute racing in Australia, pre-empting any attempts by AVESCO to establish a rival Ute series.
PROCAR no longer supply any of their racing series, including the exotic Nation’s Cup and GT-Production classes, to V8 Supercar rounds (excluding the Clipsal 500) after a falling out with AVESCO.
